Martin Schiller, a survivor of the Buchenwald concentration camp, immigrated to the United States. He served in the United States Navy, went to school, and became a successful engineer. When his son Marc wanted to walk in his father's footsteps in Poland, Mr. Schiller took him and his wife. Upon his return, he kept his promise to tell of the camps.

A mother and her young daughter were struck by a van this morning on Central Avenue. The driver of the van was headed west on Durham Avenue at 8:45 a.m. As he attempted to make a left onto Central Avenue, he did not see the pedestrians in the crosswalk and struck them, police said. Central Avenue was closed until 10:30 a.m. and has reopened.

Army Spc. Brent Riley, 20, is back home in Tangent after spending 15 months in Iraq, patrolling the streets of Baghdad. Riley, a 2005 graduate of West Albany High School, is with the 126th Infantry, now stationed in Germany.
